STAR CLAYS tiles fixing instruction.

Star Clays terra cotta tiles are neither vitrified nor ceramic. However, they can be grinded and molded just like vitrified tiles. Since our tiles have some special features never fix Star Clays Tiles on pure cement paste. The expansion and shrinkage of RCC and PCC may not agree with expansion and shrinkage of star clays tiles..So, for better results while fixing the tiles please follow the following directions without fail

1. Plaster the concreted floor with 1: 5 ratio of cement and river sand or M sand and keep this bed for curing at least for 3 days. Each day, clean the floor with clean water to remove unnecessary particles from the cement which may affect the setting and bonding of tiles.
2. Dip tiles in clean water for about 5 to 10 minutes just before laying.
3. For fixing tiles use any one of the following pastes
   a. 50% cement + 50 % river sand or M sand
   b. Branded adhesive paste available in the market
   c. Mixture of (a) + (b)
   
   While fixing tiles, Clean the surface, preferably after 2 or 3 raw otherwise cement particles may be absorbed in tiles, which may, later cause for white patches etc. on the surface
   
   Use the tiles fixing compound on the surface of the floor and on the bottom of tiles. Maintain a gap of 3 to 5mm between every tile
4. Wait for 48 hours after fixing the tiles and then fill the joints with the joint filler
5. For filing the joints use EITHER- compound of 50% cement + 50% river sand or M sand + red oxide for getting terracotta colour OR Branded Readymade joint filler. –preferably terra-red colour . Sand used in the preparation of joint filler must be very nice
6. While using joint filler make sure that the joints are in wet condition so that excess grout can be wiped off easily.

Special attention should be given to keep at least 6mm gap on all sides of the floor adjacent to the wall and this gap should not be filled and to be kept completely vacant so as to absorb probable moisture expansion of tiles .However, while fixing skirting this gap will be covered. After filling, Wipe off excess grout with a sponge or white cotton waste immediately. Next day wash the tiles with water and if necessary, clean the surface with Vinager and Shampoo mixture or with Diluted tile cleaning Acid..

Further wetting is not necessary.
